El Centro

I was at NAS El Centro in 1959 when Lieutenant Downing brought one of our planes in with the right main strut sheared off and was able to land without destroying the plane.

Later at Atsugi, Japan, he brought another F-8 in with the wheel gone but strut was still there. They sprayed the field, and he brought the plane in safely.
